Just when you get comfortable, life throws curveballs!
I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, without any consequences or issues! Not anymore. As I’ve aged, my diet has changed, and what I eat has significantly changed.
When I had young kids, food was simple, and kinda boring. Like chicken nuggets, carrot sticks, string cheese, hot dogs, mac-n-cheese, etc… Then, as they got older, it was more like meat and potatoes style.
Then I got diagnosed with some medical issues, which I then HAD to change what I ate.
Today, I no longer can eat any gluten, dairy is limited, and I TRY not to eat very much sugar.
Eating food used to be fun, but now it’s just eating to survive and feel better. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, chicken, steak, salmon, and on occasion lobster and crab.
I’ve gotten really good at reading labels on foods, and it’s amazing what some of the ingredients are in some of them.
What’s frustrating is that it’s more expensive to eat on the healthier side. Even at a restaurant, my salad can cost more than my husband’s burger and fries!
Mexican food used to be my least favorite, but now it’s become one of the ones I eat the most because they have gluten free options such as “corn” tortillas.
When I do a little splurge, I may eat dark chocolate, chocolate covered cinnamon bears, or dairy free ice cream/frozen yogurt. Yum!!!
My advice to everyone is to enjoy food while you can because you never know when life is going to throw you a curveball and change the way you do things!
